Raw Data and Meta-Data Required to Archive your Flexible Array Active Source Data Set
Principal investigators of Flexible Array experiments are expected to submit their data and meta-data to the USArray Array Operations Facility located at the PASSCAL Instrument Center as outlined in the Flexible Array data policy. Archiving the experiment's complete data set at the IRIS DMC fulfills NSF data requirements; simply sending data and meta-data to PASSCAL does not.
We suggest the principle investigators adhere to the following procedure to facilitate efficient data processing and archiving of their Flexible Array RT-130 and RT-125A Texan acquired data.
Raw Data:
- Send PASSCAL the raw data on appropriate media (e.g. DVD or USB hard-drive): Shipping Flexible Array Data and Meta-data
- Maintain a copy of the raw data locally, at least until archiving is complete.
- Please include a brief explanation of the data organization on the media as it is imperative for efficient processing.
Meta-data:
Seismic Source (Shot) Information:
- ID
- date and time
- location (latitude, longitude, elevation, WGS84 datum)
- type of source
- size, if applicable (in kilograms or seismic magnitude)
- depth below the surface in meters
- vibrator sweep information, if applicable
- comments, if applicable
Receiver (Station) Information:
- ID (station name)
- deployment and retrieval times for each array; an array being a logical collection of instruments each at a single location and all recording at the same sample rate.
- recording sample rate(s)
- location of station (latitude, longitude, (or UTM), elevation, referencing the WGS84 datum)
- serial number of receiver (data logger)
- receiver manufacturer and model number
- sensor manufacturer and model number (include response information if applicable)
- receiver orientation, if using more than vertically-oriented sensors (stations utilizing the RT-130 or stations utilizing multiple RT-125A dataloggers)
- comments, if applicable
General Information about the experiment:
- names of Principle Investigator(s) (PI)
- institutions involved in experiment (PI institutions)
- experiment name ( as that given in IRIS DMC request form for an assembled ID)
- experiment nickname (as that given in IRIS DMC request form for an assembled ID)
- paragraph (ascii text or pdf format) describing the purpose of the experiment
- paragraph (ascii text or pdf format) describing physical layout of the experiment
- paragraph (ascii text or pdf format) describing sources used in the experiment
