Descr: Explosions from shallow boreholes will be recorded to test for the existence of a shallow low-velocity zone. Shear-wave velocity information from the explosions will compliment refraction and refraction microtremor measurements. Research objectives include comparison of point and line recording methods of surface wave recording and a direct comparison of refraction microtremor, SASW, and borehole measurements in a simple geologic enviromnment. Work will contribute to the engineering characterization of the crest of Yucca Mountain.
