Descr: Install 10 seismic stations in Northern Dominican Republic to monitor the aftershocks of the M 6.5 Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic Earthquake. The earthquakes detectet will be located and focal mechanisms will be determined for the larger events. When possible, the data will be processed along with data available from other networks in the Dominican Republic, the Puerto Rico Seismic Network and worldwide. With this data we hope to understand whether the earthquake and the aftershocks are associated with the south dipping slab of the Northamerican plate or the Septentrional or other fault systm. Combining these data with those gathered from a proposed GPS campaign survey will permit the study of the potential stress transnsfer processes from these two regimes that may have implications for future earthquakes in this same region.
