Descr: This passive monitoring experiment is the second phase of the ALP2002 experiment that was primarily a controlled source effort. Together, these efforts are an ambitious, international seismic experiment whose scientific objective is to further scientific understanding of the structure and evolution of the lithosphere in the Eastern Alps and surrounding areas. In 2002, this effort included passive seismic monitoring during portions of June and July 2002 and the results were promising. The multi-band data set that this second phase of the effort will produce will be analyzed together and then integrated with other geological and geophysical data with the goal of better understanding the geodynamic processes currently at work and the complex tectonic history of this region. The Austrian funding for this effort is already in place and will cover most of the experiment costs.
