Descr: A multidisciplinary effort into the causes of continental intraplate volcanism. Focus is on the effect of plate migration and reorganization and the hypothetical impact of the "Yellowstone" plume (ca. 17 Ma) on tectonomagmatism in the Pacific Northwest. We will install a dense array of broadband seismometers along two 2-D transects of the High Lava Plains from Newberry volcanic center, across south-central and eastern Oregon, and into the Snake River Plain of western Idaho. Two seismic refraction lines will be embedded in the broadband arrays.
