Descr: Global warming is especially noticeable in the polar regions. Greenland is now experiencing some of the most rapid and severe episodes climate change on earth, and one measurable consequence is the speed at which massive glaciars are currently moving. We shall seismically monitor the motion of one of the fastest moving glaciars in Greenland, Jakobshavn, from Swiss Camp, one of 18 automatic weather stations (AWS). The AWS's are part of the Program for Arctic Regional Climate Assesment (PARCA). The objective of this project is to understand the mechanisms of slippage at the ice/bedrock boundary of the main outlet glaciar, determine the most active locations during the melting season and thus contribute to determine the response of the ice sheet to changes in the earth's climate.
