  • Experiment Name: Shear Wave Splitting and Subsurface Fracture Orientations Within the Coso Geothermal Field
  • PI: Hasting, Monastero
  • Sponsor: USN
  • Inst: USN, USN
  • Start_Date: 10/15/2000
  • End_Date: 2/15/2001
  • Lat: 36.0
  • Long: -117.75
  • Chan3: 10
  • Descr: The purpose of this experiment is to obtain subsurface fracture orientations that can be used for production strategies and to define new drilling targets within the Geothermal Field. Early work with data from the Coso Microearthquake (MEQ) Network showed good correlation between geothermal injection studies and fracture orientations obtained from shear wave splitting. Portable instruments will be used to expand the results of the MEQ network.
