  • Experiment Name: Surface Wave Characterization of the Velocity Structure on Yucca Mountain
  • PI: Biasi
  • Email: glenn@seismo.unr.edu
  • Sponsor: DOE
  • Inst: UNR
  • Start_Date: 7/25/2001
  • End_Date: 8/20/2001
  • Lat: 36.84
  • Long: -116.45
  • Chan3: 10

  • Descr: Explosions from shallow boreholes will be recorded to test for the existence of a shallow low-velocity zone. Shear-wave velocity information from the explosions will compliment refraction and refraction microtremor measurements. Research objectives include comparison of point and line recording methods of surface wave recording and a direct comparison of refraction microtremor, SASW, and borehole measurements in a simple geologic enviromnment. Work will contribute to the engineering characterization of the crest of Yucca Mountain.
