BOMBAY OASIS
It doesn't get much better than this. Beach-front property in California.

Actually, I'll take La Jolla, but Bombay Beach was good enough for this experiment. Most of the houses in Bombay Beach were closed up for the Summer or abandoned.

One oasis in town was the house of Frank and Elsie Griffin. Frank was retired military and first came to Bombay Beach in 1949. It probably looked about the same then as it does now. In 1979 he and his wife moved here permanently. The sunscreen and all of the plants made the place quite a change from the rest of the town. There were countless birds.

Frank had a spot behind the house that was just right for our stuff.

Susan and Frank. The missus was not home when we were installing the station.
