With the bulk of the experiment over everyone headed back home. We were put up in the Las Americas Hotel which was where I stayed in 2001.
Good 'ol FUNVISIS was still up on the hill in the Caracas suburb of Petare.
There was still a lot of work to do. I tried to get as much of the data processed as possible before leaving the country. In addition to processing a copy of everything had to also be made for us (just for safekeeping), for Rice, and for FUNVISIS. I kept one of the workstations busy until the last minute before we finally had to pack it up to ship it back home (the truck at the bottom of the page was waiting).
In fine, Venezuelan tradition, there was an end-of-experiment party.
Bobbing for Polars.
The party was made up of deployers -- volunteers and FUNVISIS employees, their families, and other FUNVISIS workers. There was drinking, eating, dancing and laughing.
Michael Schmitz, the FUNVISIS staff scientist that was a collaborator on the experiment, and his 1950 Chevrolet. He uses this car, instead of a shiny new one, because no one would want to steal this one. It must work, because he had this same car in 2001.
When the truck showed up all of the boxes were loaded and that was that. The in-country portion of the experiment was over. To this day, 2005OCT18, data is probably still being "massaged" from this experiment.
