NORAH JONES

On October 5th, 2004, Norah Jones and The Handsome Band put on a great concert at The Joint in the Hard Rock Casino. Norah wasn't drunk in the picture above causing it to be blurry. I was.

The lead "band" for the concert was easy jazz guitarist Amos Lee. He was pretty good, and pretty funny.

Above in the middle is Adam Levy.

Backup singer and musician Daru Oda.

The guy in the middle of the picture is Robbie McIntosh.

I wonder if he makes faces like that when he's dancing?

All of the pictures were taken from the second row -- which helped a lot -- with the flash turned off, the ISO setting of my camera (a Canon S500) cranked up to 400, and the metering set to "spot". I pre-focused the camera on something bright, like the lights in the background, before taking each picture so as to fool the camera into thinking that there was a reasonable amount of light. That way the shutter speed would be fast enough to keep the pictures from coming out too blurry. Most of the time it worked OK, but I just couldn't get Norah to stand still very often.

Lee Alexander playing bass writes a lot of the songs with Norah.

The set lasted about 90 minutes and contained songs from their first album"Come Away With Me" and the latest at the time "Feels Like Home". The songs I remember were "What Am I To You", "Nightingale","I've Got To See You Again", "Long Way Home", "The Nearness Of You", "Creepin' In", and, of course, "Don't Know Why". They didn't perform my favorite "Shoot The Moon". Darn.

Andrew Borger is the percussionist on the right.

Norah, Adam, Andrew, Robbie, Daru, and Alexander. Second row seats. Cool.

A couple of encore songs were performed at the end of the show. One of them about Las Vegas involved, what else, but feather boas.

Nice concert. Go see 'em when they come to a town near you, or even if you have to make a quick trip a couple of states over. Thanks, Norah!
